For sale is a
JM Stamped Marlin 336 lever-action rifle, chambered in the legendary
.30-30 Winchester cartridge. This rifle is in
good used condition and features the highly desirable
JM stamp (pre-Remington Marlin). Manufactured in
1976, this is a
non-safety model – no crossbolt safety. Serial Number:
24062687.
This 336 has a
20-inch barrel with an overall length of
39 inches. It features a
Maverick 3-9x40 scope (crosshair reticle) mounted in
Weaver rings on a

- Superior Fit & Finish: JM-stamped Marlins are highly sought after by collectors and shooters for their quality control, attention to detail, and accuracy.
- Desirable Pre-Safety Model: This 1976 336 has no crossbolt safety – a traditional lever action as John Marlin intended.
- Collector Appeal: A JM-stamped, pre-safety 336 in .30-30 is a classic American lever gun – highly desirable.
Marlin 336 Features – The Classic American Lever Gun
- Proven .30-30 Performance: The .30-30 Winchester has put more venison in freezers than any other cartridge in American history.
- 20" Barrel: The classic carbine length – lightweight, fast-handling, and perfectly balanced for brush and timber hunting.
- Side Ejection: Marlin's solid-top receiver with side ejection allows for easy scope mounting – unlike top-ejecting lever guns.
- Hammer Extension Installed: Makes the hammer easier to manipulate when using a scope.
- Maverick 3-9x40 Scope: Adds magnification for precise shot placement at longer ranges. Crosshair reticle.
- Original Sights Retained: The original iron sights are still on the rifle – backup aiming is available if the scope is removed.
- 1976 Production – Bicentennial Era: This rifle was manufactured in America's Bicentennial year – a piece of history.
Condition Details – Good, Honest Wear

- Mechanical Function: Excellent – Lever action cycles smoothly, loading gate functions correctly, trigger is crisp.

- Blued Finish: Fading in parts – honest wear consistent with a well-used field rifle.
- Wooden Furniture: Plenty of handling marks – dings, scratches, and character from decades in the woods. No cracks or structural issues.
- Scope: Maverick 3-9x40 – crosshair reticle, functional. No turret caps included – adjustment turrets are exposed.
- Hammer Extension: Installed and functional.
- Original Sights: Retained on the rifle but currently inoperable due to scope mounting.
- No Safety: This is a pre-safety model – no crossbolt safety. Classic operation.
1976 Pre-Safety Model – Classic Lever Action Operation
This 1976 Marlin 336 has
no crossbolt safety – it relies on the traditional half-cock hammer notch for safe carry. Many lever action enthusiasts prefer these pre-safety models for their classic, uncluttered receiver and traditional operation. This is a true working rifle as John Marlin intended.
Scope & Sight Configuration – Scope Mounted, Irons Retained
The Maverick 3-9x40 scope is mounted in Weaver rings on a Weaver rail attached to the receiver. The
original iron sights are still on the rifle but are currently inoperable due to the scope being mounted. If you choose to remove the scope, the original sights are ready to use. The scope does not have caps for the adjustment turrets – the turrets are exposed.
