Antique 1889 Marlin Octagon Barrel 38-40 Caliber. Excellent Bright Bore. Excellent Mechanics. Shoots Like New. Some Barrel Blue. Excellent Wood.
Description: SOLD....Antique 1889 Marlin. I nice and above average 1889 marlin.. Has the standard 24” Octagon barrel. It is in the best shooting caliber and my all time favorite 38-40. S/N is 39141 and was made in very early 1890 so it is a very early second year production. The bore is excellent. Bright and shiny with just a few very minor and shallow specks of roughness. If not for these specks the bore would rate about mint. No rings or bulges and this gun shoots like new.. It feeds, fires and ejects perfectly. Both the safety and full cock notches are perfect and positive. NOT broken.. 80% of these 89's you will find have broken safety notches. This one is perfect and has never been repaired. It has the original front and rear sights with the front sight being the standard Marlin Rocky Mountain style sight. The rear is the standard Marlin sight with the “legs” on both sides and still has the original “fish hook” elevator. This nice 89 is 100% completely honest and has never been messed with in any way. The barrel still has I would say probably 70% or more slightly fading blue when you put a light on it... It is not deep bright blue but still has blue color that is just starting to turn to plumb. I will try to get a few areas in my photos to explain better. The sun is fading in and out today but will try my best. The receiver is a deep brown patina. Never cleaned on or messed with.. Two small spots of surface crud in front of the loading gate. All markings are excellent.. The wood is great and near excellent.. The forearm fits tight and full and has no cracks or splits.. Just one tiny nick on the top right side.. It still has about 80% original varnish. The varnish has just thinned out a little on the bottom in front of the receiver from honest carry wear and a couple minor shallow scratches.. The butt stock is very nice with no splits or cracks. It fits tight and full.. It also shows about 80% original varnish and some honest and minor scratches from use.. There are spots of oil staining on both sides on top around the front of the upper tang right behind the receiver.. Just really nice untouched wood on this gun. The screw heads are clean and sharp for the most part.. The forearm cap screw on the right side and the hammer screw show some burring but these would be very easy to clean up and touch up to make look perfect. About all I can say on this one.. Just a real nice 1889 Marlin with some barrel blue and an excellent bore at a fairly reasonable price these days. A great poor mans Winchester is what I call them. Call 765-728-8049 for more detailed photos or any questions. I want happy customers.. $50 shipping and if you want it fully insured then the shipping is right at $100 UPS.. If it is less I will send you a refund on the balance to be completely fair with you. If it is more I will eat it... Shipping has went through the roof and I can no longer want to ship USPS because of the major problems they have in their system down in Indy Indiana.. I will ship USPS on request but you take your chances on getting it some time in a month or so !!!!.
