One of the highest forms of engraving available at the time was the style number 5 scroll engraving as per Brophy's book. This gun does not have the usual left side picture panel, rather it has the style 5 scroll engraving on both sides as well as the take down band, barrel, nose cap and the lower receiver. Engraving is sharp and matches book pattern to the tee. The gun features a 26" half octagon barrel, half magazine, take down, original rubber marlin logo shotgun butt plate and triple xxx pistol grip checkered stock. Has standard length forearm used on full length barrel rifles. Caliber is popular 32-40. This is an early gun #163171 was made in 1898 so can be sent directly to your door. Now as to condition. The wood is excellent with no cracks, just some wear to the checkering. Barrel retains at least 98% original factory blue finish and take down tube is almost as nice with a little more patina. Monogram hard rubber butt plate. Receiver colors have darkened to an almost patina like on a high grade Morgan silver dollar. Bore is like new. Print out from Cody states record blank for this firearm but guaranteed factory engraving, no doubt at all as pattern is exact as in book and Nimske quality and style is flawless scroll.
