HUGE MARLIN 1881 .45-70, 30" EX. HEAVY BARREL, BROWNING BRO. MARKED
Description: RARE AND HISTORICAL, HUGE MODEL 1881 .45-70 RIFLE WITH SPECIAL ORDER 30" EXTRA HEAVY FULL OCTAGON BARREL AND DOUBLE SET TRIGGERS, WITH HIGHLY DESIRABLE BROWNING BROS, OGDEN, U. T. BARREL STAMPING (THE U. T. STANDS FOR UTAH TERRITORY)! No doubt John Browning handled this one personally as it was sold out of their Utah shop before they were associated with Winchester. This one is in the 8400 serial range making it and 1885 manufacture, weighs 11 1/2 pounds, magazine tube extends only 28 inches as this was the longest length offered, overall metal deep uncleaned blue/brown, has some scattered pitting mainly on the forward part of the magazine tube, original buckhorn rear sight, Rocky Mountain blade front sight, excellent markings, uncleaned and unfooled with, double set triggers function fine, tight action, fine plus bore, has one slight crack coming back from the upper tang for 1/2 inch and curving around the left side for a couple of inches and goes nowhere – minor, solid forearm, correct smooth steel butt plate, this is a really big Marlin- I have only seen a very small few of these in the last twenty years! And one of the few rifles of any make or model that has the early "Utah Territory" Browning markings on the barrel, a true western rifle and about as big and heavy an 1881 .45-70 as one could ever find! SOLD Antique: Yes Manufacturer: Marlin Model: 1881 EXTRA HEAVY Serial Number: 9XXX Caliber Info: .45-70 Condition: VG-Fine Barrels: 30" heavy oct. |
