MARLIN 1895 TAKEDOWN, .38-56 OCT. RIFLE, #137XXX, FACTORY LETTER, SHIPPED 1896.
Description: MARLIN 1895 TAKEDOWN, .38-56 CALIBER OCTAGON RIFLE, #137XXX, WITH CODY FACTORY LETTER, SHIPPED 1896. These big 1895 Marlins have become very difficult to find in any condition with takedown variants especially scarce. This is a fine early example. The .38-56 was a powerful cartridge not to be confused with the smaller straight walled .38-55 case. The .38-56 is the .45-70 case necked to .38 caliber and held a full 56 grains of black powder. The .38-55 actually only held about 42-45 grains of powder. This rifle has good lightly aged/thinned blue on the barrel and mag tube with a buckhorn rear sight with elevator bar intact and a blade/bead front sight. All markings are excellent and sharp. The receiver is an aged mottled gray with good blue on the loading gate. Solid stock and forend showing only normal handling marks and tight wood to metal fit. If you look carefully on the right side of the stock is a neat and lightly scratched "T" with a "flying V" next to it, which I assume was a cattle brand? Tight action, tight takedown, strong safety half-cock, exc. bore. A fine 129 year old Marlin 1895 Takedown. SOLD Antique: Yes Rifle Caliber: .38-56 Winchester Manufacturer: MARLIN Model: 1895 TAKEDOWN Serial Number: 137XXX Barrel Length: 26" OCT. Condition: FINE Bore Condition: EXCELLENT |
