Rare Marlin 1897 cal .22 LR. This very nice example was built in 1899, the 2nd year of production. Octagon barrel, take-down. The wood is in extremely nice condition, was certainly refinished at some time, and retains a wonderful soft gloss. It was not sanded hard as the wood to metal fit is excellent. The case colors are faded and there is plenty left on the receiver. The barrel and bolt show plenty of blue remaining while the tube magazine has a nice plum brown patina. Rifling is strong but is a bit dark. Mechanically it is very good. I just reduced the price by $300~!
