Special Order Marlin 1881 Set Triggers 1/2 Magazine 45-70 Great Bore Select Wood Cody Verified Made 1883 High Condition
Description: Guns by Sally-always the best for less. We are really proud to offer this fine example of J.M. Marlin's first repeating rifle, the model 1881. This was a large frame rifle, and this one is chambered in the potent 45-70 Government cartridge. Made in the year of our Lord 1883, she is in absolutely wonderful condition for being 137 years old. I suspect that this was a rich man's gun, as most '81s were workhorses, and had the scars to prove it. However, if one were only used for a yearly elk hunt, it may look hust like this one. She wears the original blue, drifting to patina, and the sharp edges are silvered out. The gorgeous select walnut is all there, with only light handling marks. While well figured wood was not specified in the Cody verification, it was often added to special order rifles. The double set triggers are listed, as well as the half magazine option. The bore of the 28 inch barrel is absolutely gleaming, a true rarity from the era of black powder. The action is crisp and smooth, and works as designed, including the half cock safety. The set triggers work well. Pull the rear one first, then a breath will set off the front trigger. If not needed, the front trigger alone will do the job with a standard weight of pull. The stampings are sharp and clear, and the corporate fish hook elevator still sits under the wonderful buckhorn rear sight. Being an Antique, it will ship right to your door. Marlins have really gained collector status in the last few decades. Collectors realized that only about 360 thousand were made of all models combined. In comparison, over a million Winchester 1894's were made in the same time period. If you have been looking for the right Marlin 1881 to collect, for investment, or for that throwback hunt, but want the added clout of a special order rifle in great condition, then look no further.
