VERY FINE ANTIQUE MARLIN 1893 .25-36 OCT. RIFLE, #166XXX, MADE 1898.
Description: VERY FINE ANTIQUE MARLIN 1893 .25-36 OCT. RIFLE, #166XXX, MADE 1898. This is one of the first pre-1899 .25-36 caliber 1893s I've seen. Almost all I've seen, and this is a fairly scarce caliber for this model, have been late production. According to Brophy's Marlin book, the earliest .25-36 was shipped in 1895 (serial number 122813) and the lowest serial number rifle was 115038- oddly shipped later in 1896. This one shows fine deep case colors on the receiver sides and top with a bit of brown spotting mixing in and some wear to the very forward case colors on the left side. Good color on the receiver portion where the lever attaches along with good color on the lever. Fine deep blue on the barrel and magazine, again wth some light brown spotting at the rear of the barrel- a good oil soaking and light cleaning would probably help in this area- still fairly minor. Even has fine blue on the forend cap. Screws appear unturned and retain fire blue, exc. stock and forend with tight wood to metal fit, exc. markings, buckhorn rear sight with elevator bar intact and Rocky Mountain blade front sight, nice blue on the loading gate. Tight action, strong springs and strong safety half-cock on the hammer. Bore is excellent if very slightly dark with no pitting. Super scarce 125 year old Marlin in a rare caliber and in outstanding condition. SOLD Antique: Yes Rifle Caliber: .25-36 Marlin Manufacturer: MARLIN Model: 1893 OCT. RIFLE Serial Number: 166XXX Barrel Length: 26" OCT. Condition: EXCELLENT Bore Condition: EXCELLENT |
