Marlin Model 444 T 1st Generation Made in 1972 ***Rare Rifle with Proof Marks***

Description:
The 1st generation Marlin 444 and 444 T were made from 1965 to 1971. In 1972 Marlin changed the design to a sporter version with 22 inch barrel, Pistol grip plain stock, Square lever handle, Cross bolt safty etc. The 1st generation had 24 inch barrel, Stright texas style Monti carlo stock, Round lever handle . This rifle made in 1972 has serial # 7210046, 24 inch micro groove barrel with open sights fold down rear, Barrel address is stamped 444 T, Hammer extension, JM barrel stamped, Red marlin butt pad, Sling studs and swivels, 2/3 lenght magazine tube, Scope rail, And the square lever handle, Bluing and bore are very good, Stock is good but has some scratches and what looks like bite marks on both sides. There are some proof marks stamped on the barrel and receiver might be German ( If anyone can tell me their meaning I would appreciate it )  Due to the transition period in production some variations with unique peatures due exist. Some rifles from this period ( including models marked 444 T ) have been observed by collectors to have a mix of features, such as 24 inch barrel combined with the Monti- Carlo stock. These variations were due to changes in the production line during the transition from the earlier 1965-1971 "Texan" model to the sporter version. The 1st generation 444 are becoming very collectable and sought after by hunters in states where it is now legal to hunt with stright wall cartridges. This rifle being made in 1972 with the 1st generation features is quite rare. Also with the foreign proof marks. Rifle functions perfect.   Layaway Available
