Marlin Model 989 M2, .22LR, Semi-Automatic Rifle, Manufactured 1969
Description: Designed to look and feel like the U.S. M1 Carbine, this Marlin Model 989 M2, Version 4, .22LR rifle has an 18" barrel with a very good bore, an open rear sight adjustable for elevation and windage, a fixed ramped front, front and rear sling swivels, and one 10-round magazine. The overall length of the rifle is 37 inches. Its overall weight is 4 pounds, 10 ounces (with empty magazine). Its length of pull is 13 ¾ inches. The year of manufacture is 1969. The Centennial medallion embedded in the stock indicates this rifle is Version 4 of the Model 989. The "JM' stamped on the barrel is the initials fr John Martin, and indicate that the rifle was at the oriiginal North Haven Connecticut factory before Marlin was taken over by Remington. Many collectors consider JM rifles to be higher quality than those produced afterward under Remington. There are no other accessories. The rifle stock has a hairline crack that begins just behind the safety button on both sides of the stock (wrist). On the right side, it runs to the rear of the rifle about 1½ inches, and on the lefts side it runs about 1¾ inches. This crack does NOT run completely around the wrist. The crack is visible in the photos. Despite the crack, the stock is solid. There appears to be no danger of the cracks getting worse or the stock splitting off. The finish on the stock is in very condition, with scattered small scratches especially on the left side of the stock; none penetrate the finish. There is one 3/8 inch dent on the right side of the stock about 1 1/8 inch in front of the receiver and extending to both the forend and the hand guard over the barrel. There are no other cracks, gouges, or other signs of wear to the wood. The barrel is in excellent condition, with no rust anywhere. The aluminum receiver and trigger guard is in very good condition, showing a few scrapes on the high parts of the top of the receiver and scattered around the trigger guard. There is no rust on the gun. The photos are high resolution, so zoom to see details. Contact me for additional photos of any area you would like to see or see better.
