Description: CUSTOM Squirrel/Fox Engraved MARLIN Model 39 Lever Action .22 S, L, LR C&R 1920s Highly Customized & Embellished Rifle Here we present a Custom Engraved J.M. Marlin Model 1939 Rifle chambered in .22 L, S, LR, made circa the 1920s in New Haven, Connecticut. Marlin was one of Winchester’s biggest competitors for the lever action market in the late-19th and into the 20th Century. Introduced in 1922, the Model 39 was chambered for .22 rimfire and had a 24" octagonal barrel and a take-down feature. Its full-length magazine tube holds 25 Shorts, 20 Longs or 18 Long Rifle cartridges. Most of the Model 39s had a spring-loaded button outer magazine tube release. This one features the engraving on the receiver, with a pair of squirrels on a tree on the left side and a prowling fox on the right. Scroll engraving borders each scene and extends to the sides of the hammer, down the lever, and to the fore end cap. The stock is fancy grade walnut with hand cut checkering. Rather than having a butt plate, the stock has been checkered on the back. The muzzle has been banded in gold. The left side of the receiver is signed “AP”. This is a sharp little gun. A one of a kind! The overall condition is very fine. Smooth, crisp action. Brightly rifled bore with nice rifling. The stock is in excellent shape with sharp checkering. Case colored and engraved frame. Nice reblued finish. The muzzle is adorned with a gold band. This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic. Barrel is 24 inches.
