Marlin Model 39A Lever Action 22 Cal S/L/LR E-prefix Made 1948
Description: Marlin Model 39A lever action 22 cal rifle that shoots short, long and long rifle cartridges, tubular magazine, open rear sight and ramped front sight, blued finish and trigger, walnut stocks, factory sling swivels, receiver factory-drilled and tapped for various receiver sights (all have the correct plug screws), 24" round barrel JM-marked, take down frame. CONDITION: Barrel retains 85% bright original blue with some wear and thinning on the left side near the front sight and slight wear at the muzzle. Mag tube retains 90% bright original blue and receiver retains 95% bright original blue. Serial number on lower tang is E23960 indicating manufacture in 1948. Excellent bright shiny bore. Butter-smooth action and properly working half cock safety. Take down feature is tight with no wobble and operates as designed. Original swivels intact. Front sight ramp missing hood. Stocks are in excellent condition but the butt plate is oversized, being an original replacement from a Model 336 carbine and the only detracting feature of this rifle. A correct butt plate shouldn't be hard to find. Grades NRA Modern Fine and will make a great collector as well as shooter.
