Guns International #: 101629841
Seller's Inventory #: AL5992
This late Marlin model 1889 rifle was factory assembled using a model 1894 barrel with the Aug. 1, 1893 patent date, probably as part of a parts clean up. The receiver is model 1888 as it has the unique lever latch. The model 1889 was made concurrently with the model 1894 through 1899, so the later model barrel is not that unusual. The 24"" octagon barrel has a fine bore with bright rifling and light erosion in the grooves. The barrel and magazine tube have a smooth brown patina. The receiver , marked MARLIN SAFETY on top is a smooth mixture of blue and brown. The butt plate has a smooth brown patina. The butt stock is good with an old repair at the wrist (two round plugs) with a gap on the right of the upper tang and scattered dents and dings. The forend is good with no cracks or chips. The action functions correctly. This is a good representative model 1889 rifle.
