The 'other' lever action 30/30 deer gun, is this Marlin. The main difference between them is the rack and pinion action and side eject. Verbal wars have been fought over which is the better gun, Marlin or Winchester. The Marlin side eject makes scope mounting a lot easier, and the closed action keeps dirt out. The Winchester has been proven for 30 years longer. This one features the straight grip and short barrel carbine design. The barrel is rifled with Micro-groove fine rifling. It is a "JM" Marlin, predating the Remington acquisition. This will be a great choice for anyone who needs a ranch gun for pest control, or a hunting rifle for still or stand hunting. .30-30 Winchester
