Marlin Model 1893
Description:
Manufactured in 1903, this Marlin Model 1893 takedown rifle is a standout high-condition example chambered in the desirable .38-55 cartridge. The included factory letter confirms the rifle was shipped November 3, 1903, in .38-55 with a 26 inch octagon barrel and takedown configuration. While the Model 1893 was one of Marlin’s most successful lever actions and a true contemporary of the Winchester Model 1894, surviving examples in this level of condition are scarce, as most saw hard service with hunters, ranchers, and working men across the American West.
The rifle has the standard two-line Marlin barrel address and patent dates ending in 1893, “Special Smokeless Steel” marking on the upper left barrel flat, “38-55” caliber marking at the breech, “Marlin Safety” marking on top of the frame, serial number on the underside, and model marking on the upper tang. It is fitted with Rocky Mountain style sights, including a German silver blade front sight and elevation adjustable buckhorn rear sight, with the tang drilled and tapped for a peep sight. Mounted with a smooth forearm, straight grip stock, and crescent buttplate, this is an especially fine non-deluxe Model 1893 and an excellent piece of classic American lever action history.
Condition:
Excellent, retains 97% plus of the original blue finish with some very light edge wear and a few scattered light scratches. 95% plus of the vibrant original case colors remain with mild thinning on portions of the lever and buttplate. The wood is also excellent with some scattered very light dings and scratches. Mechanically excellent.
