Marlin Model 1894 Custom Cowboy .357 Magnum
This custom Marlin 1894 was built on a New Haven, CT manufactured Marlin 1894 .357 magnum with a 24-inch barrel. This rifle has been restocked in AAA feather crotch American walnut that has a "best gun" oil finish. A crescent buttplate was installed and the stock features attractive full coverage hand-cut checkering. Length of pull is 14 inches. The metal parts have been carefully hand polished and slow rust blued.
A "Wild West Guns" after-market trigger provides an excellent crisp let-off. An aftermarket hammer spring has also been installed to reduce lever cycling effort. Also, an aluminum follower has also been installed to replace the cheap plastic factory follower.
The factory rear sight was replaced with a reproduction flip up ladder sight. O course this sight is useful for shooting at normal .357 ranges (e.g. 100 yards or less). But with the ladder flipped up, this sight provides almost unlimited elevation adjustment. This allows target shooting games at extreme ranges for a .357 (e.g. 200-300 yards) and this is really fun!
A second set of sights is provided that allows configuring this rifle for more serious accuracy: a windage/elevation adjustable Brockman peep sight paired with a Lyman 17a front sight. Mounting screws and an adjustable wrench for the Brockman sight are included. No standard Lyman 17a sight was the correct height to work with the Brockman sight on the Marlin 94 that has a dovetail rather than a ramped front sight. Thus the Lyman 17a sight provided was custom machined and a new dovetail cut to provide the correct height for use with the Brockman aperture sight.
For a number of reasons, both practical and esthetic, purists detest the factory cross-bolt safety installed in Marlin lever guns manufactured after 1983. The cross-bolt safety on this rifle has been replaced with a dummy pin that looks like a screw, a popular solution for the unpopular cross-bolt safety. This custom Marlin 1894 was built on a New Haven, CT manufactured Marlin 1894 .357 magnum with a 24-inch barrel. No standard Lyman 17a sight was the correct height to work with the Brockman sight on the Marlin 94 that has a dovetail rather than a ramped front sight. Thus the Lyman 17a sight provided was custom machined and a new dovetail cut to provide the correct height for use with the Brockman aperture sight.
For a number of reasons, both practical and esthetic, purists detest the factory cross-bolt safety installed in Marlin lever guns manufactured after 1983. The cross-bolt safety on this rifle has been replaced with a dummy pin that looks like a screw, a popular solution for the unpopular cross-bolt safety. The half cock notch in the hammer now serves as the safety just as it did in all Marlin lever action rifles for nearly 100 years before Marlin lawyers mandated the cross-bolt safety. Safety with any rifle requires a knowledgeable shooter using common sense. Marlin lawyers didn't change this.

Marlin Model 1894 Custom Cowboy .357 Magnum
This custom Marlin 1894 was built on a New Haven, CT manufactured Marlin 1894 .357 magnum with a 24-inch barrel. This rifle has been restocked in AAA feather crotch American walnut that has a "best gun" oil finish. A crescent buttplate was installed and the stock features attractive full coverage hand-cut checkering. Length of pull is 14 inches. The metal parts have been carefully hand polished and slow rust blued.
A "Wild West Guns" after-market trigger provides an excellent crisp let-off. An aftermarket hammer spring has also been installed to reduce lever cycling effort. Also, an aluminum follower has also been installed to replace the cheap plastic factory follower.
The factory rear sight was replaced with a reproduction flip up ladder sight. O course this sight is useful for shooting at normal .357 ranges (e.g. 100 yards or less). But with the ladder flipped up, this sight provides almost unlimited elevation adjustment. This allows target shooting games at extreme ranges for a .357 (e.g. 200-300 yards) and this is really fun!
A second set of sights is provided that allows configuring this rifle for more serious accuracy: a windage/elevation adjustable Brockman peep sight paired with a Lyman 17a front sight. Mounting screws and an adjustable wrench for the Brockman sight are included.
