Stunning 1st Year, Potentially Historic, Marlin Model 39-A Rifle Brilliant Case Colors
Description: Every once in a while, a really special rifle emerges. Here is one of them. This Marlin Model 39-A is a first year, first model with all the correct early Model 39-A features - case hardened frame, 24" round barrel, full tubular magazine with brass inner tube and twist-type tube lock, take down frame, squared lever, plain walnut stocks, heavy full beavertail fore arm, straight shotgun butt, shallow "S" curve to the bottom of the pistol grip, dovetailed front sight, no upper tang marking, upper tang properly drilled and tapped for a tang sight, model marking part of the barrel address, firing 22 short, long and long rifle cartridges. What really makes it interesting is the serial number - according to Col. Brophy's big Marlin book, the first generation Model 39-A had no prefix before the serial number (the next generation started with the letter "B" until the blued receiver/third generation started). Now, he also recorded the highest serial number for the Model 39, which the 39-A replaced, as HS18784. Well folks, this Model 39-A is serial number HS18244 and 100% correct!! Careful removal of the butt stock revealed 18244 in the upper channel (was extremely tight and I don't think it was ever off). After taking the rifle down, the half moon tab on the front assembly showed number 244, the last 3 digits of the full serial number. Manufacturers never threw parts away, so either this receiver was laying in the bottom of the parts bin until used for this rifle, or it was grabbed and used as one of the first samples of the model during the transition to the 39-A from the 39. There are absolutely no signs of outside-the-factory assembly! I've seen this from time to time with Winchester lever actions, where earlier serial numbers had later features, but this is my first encounter with any Marlin in this situation. By the way, the Marble's tang sight is properly coded M8 for the Marlin Model 39. Add in the fact that the rifle is well over 90% condition with eye-popping case colors on the frame, a mint bore, perfect action, heck even the upper tang retains portions of the protective paper that was supplied with the tang sight when it was installed! The only thing missing is the rear sight, with the dovetail being filled with a blank so the tang sight could be used without visual interference. the stocks have no extra holes and exhibit just a few light handling marks. The action functions perfectly, including the half cock safety, and the take down feature is tight with no wobble. This is the only 39-A I've encountered in 35 years having an HS prefix, and I'd love to hear from you Marlin collectors out there if you've seen another. This is definitely one for the advanced collector that will surely skyrocket in value over time, so don't miss out! TERMS: FREE SHIPPING! No international sales and no sales to Alaska or Hawaii.
