Antique British-Nepalese Marked Martini-Henry Mk. II Rifle by BSA
Description: NSN, .577/.450 Martini, 33 1/2" barrel with a fine, bright bore that has mild freckling within the grooves. This is an 1889-dated, "(Crown) / VR" cyphered, "B.S.A. & M. Co." (Birmingham Small Arms & Metals Co.) marked rifle that has traces of blue remaining on a few of the protected areas. The majority of the exposed metal has a smooth plum-brown patina, with some thin freckling throughout, as well as thin pinprick pitting present along some of the high points and edges. The receiver markings are still clear and legible, including the "S,X" (Strengthened Extractor) stamp on top, aswell as the Nepalese property markings on the barrel to the left of the rear sight: "NS / NEP" (Native State / Nepal). The walnut forend and buttstock are in very good shape with numerous small handling marks and blemishes scattered about the thick, added military oil finish. Some small chips are missing from the wood around the edge of the buttplate, and visible British and Nepalese markings are present on the right side of the buttstock. Additionally, four hashmarks have been carved into the wood on the right side of the wrist. The original cleaning rod is still in place, and a new white leather sling is fitted. This is a splendid looking native forces marked Martini-Henry, and is in very good condition overall. Antique; SOLD |
