Offered here is a factory game scene engraved Mauser Model M03 dangerous-game takedown rifle chambered in .404 Jeffery — one of the great classic African safari cartridges. This is a substantial, purpose-built safari rifle combining Mauser’s modern takedown system, classic dangerous-game styling, factory engraving, excellent walnut, and a Swarovski low-power scope.
The rifle is built with a 25-inch blued steel barrel featuring a banded beaded-blade front sight, fixed notch rear sight on an island base, barrel band front sling swivel, 2006-dated German proof marks, and standard Mauser factory markings near the breech. The M03 system gives the rifle the practical advantage of a modern takedown platform while retaining the strength, precision, and field confidence expected from Mauser.
The coin-grey action is finished with attractive scroll engraving, with additional engraving on the bolt body. The bottom metal is also coin finished, with light scroll engraving on the trigger guard and a cape buffalo bull game scene on the floorplate of the flush-fitting detachable magazine. The engraving is tasteful and properly suited to the rifle — enough to elevate it, while preserving its identity as a working safari rifle.
Mounted is a Swarovski Habicht 1.25–4x24 mm scope, an excellent low-power optic for a dangerous-game rifle. It provides a wide field of view, fast target acquisition, and the optical quality expected from Swarovski. The scope optics are sharp, and the original scope box is included.
The stock is richly figured walnut with multi-point checkering, black forend tip, black grip cap, pistol grip, right-hand palm swell, rear sling swivel, and black rubber recoil pad. Length of pull is approximately 14 3/8 inches. Weight with the mounted scope is approximately 11.2 pounds, giving the rifle appropriate steadiness and recoil control in .404 Jeffery while still retaining practical field handling.
The .404 Jeffery remains one of the most respected African dangerous-game cartridges ever developed. It earned its reputation through deep penetration, moderate operating pressure, excellent shootability, and decisive field performance on buffalo and other heavy game. In this Mauser M03 configuration, the cartridge is paired with a modern, accurate, takedown rifle platform exceptionally well suited for serious safari use.
Condition is excellent overall, retaining approximately 99% original blue and coin finishes with only minor handling evidence. Checkering on the stock and forend remains sharp. The bore is bright with sharp rifling. Mechanically excellent.
