Mauser military rifle, Model 98, 8mm, bolt action
Description: Mauser 8mm, bolt action, model 98, military rifle. The numbers 4800, 243 and 1940 appear on the crown along with an n, 1 eagle on the sleft side and 3 #26's on the right side. Mod. 98 stamped on the left side of the receiver. The left side of the barrel, behind the leaf sight is an eagle with mod 4800 and a n in front of sight. There are a couple of hickies on the barrel. Right above the crown, there is a number 733 sm 39 D. The stock has several vice marks on each side, but,the stock is solid. After much research, it was determined that the rifle is a military rifle, manufactured in 1939 or 1940. The military stock has been modified to resemble a modern sporting rifle but the hole that held the cleaning rof is visible. The 733 sm39 D is perhaps the serial #. We ran the rifle through NICS and it cleared. This Mauser is still viable as a modern hunting rifle.
