1886 Mauser Broomhandle Model 71/84 Ecuador Long Rifle Chambered in 11x60mm Mauser
Description: The Mauser Model 71/84, officially designated the Infanterie-Gewehr 1871/84, represents a major step in late-19th-century military arms development by the firm of Mauser. Introduced in 1884, it succeeded the single-shot Model 1871 by integrating an under-barrel tubular magazine capable of holding eight rounds, thus becoming one of the first successful German repeating rifles. Chambered in the black-powder cartridge 11 × 60 mm R (commonly referred to as the 11 mm Mauser), this rifle uses a conventional bolt-action mechanism, beefy construction, and long service profile. With a weight around 4.6 kg (≈10.2 lb) and overall length typically around 1.3 m (≈51 inches), it features a round blued barrel, wood stock, bayonet mount, and ladder-type rear sight graduated up to 1 600 m. Today the Model 71/84 remains of strong interest to collectors, historical shooters, and firearms enthusiasts who value its craftsmanship, place in Mauser’s legacy, and the developmental role it played between early single-shots and modern magazine-fed bolt rifles.
