Interesting ID’D Mauser Gewehr Model 71 Antique Cavalry “Carbine”-7th Uhlan Prussian Cavalry Lancer unit
Description: Interesting ID’D Mauser Gewehr Model 71 Antique Cavalry “Carbine”-7th Uhlan Prussian Cavalry Lancer unit Offered here for sale and just acquired is a very interesting adaption of the Mauser Gewehr Model 71 cavalry carbine. The Mauser Model 1871 ("Gewehr 71") was the first bolt-action rifle adopted by the German Empire, designed by Paul Mauser and his brother Wilhelm. This particular specimen appears to be a modified cavalry carbine or short rifle variant, with some intriguing features and historical appeal. ThisMauser Model 1871 was originally a full-length infantry rifle chambered in 11mm Mauser (commonly referred to as 11x60mmR or 10.95mm, aligning with the marking on the carbine). The markings "1876" and "1877" correspond to manufacture and/or unit issue dates, which is consistent with original military acceptance patterns. The specimen appears to have maintained its 20” barrel length but the longer forestock and end cap appears shortened with a rounding of end of stock to create a “carbine”. This suggests a possible arsenal or gunsmith reconfiguration—perhaps post-service or done for commercial sale or civilian use. If well-done, it might have been adapted either for Colonial police/militia use. The specimen still has mathcing serial number (#5075 on barrel and breach). It carries original sling rings. The compact size and balance would have made it ideal for mounted troops or dispatch riders. The "mellow brown patina with traces of blue" is a classic sign of natural aging in antique firearms. The "pin-prick patina" on the buttplate is normal for a piece this age. Regimental markings are a major historical bonus—they often identify the specific unit or region it was assigned to (Prussian, Bavarian, etc.) Our research has identified this regiment as the 7th (Königlich Preußisches) Ulanen-Regiment. The “L.” stands for "Ulanen", or Uhlans, which were lancer cavalry units. The 7th Uhlan Regiment was a Prussian cavalry unit, formally titled Königlich Preußisches Ulanen-Regiment Nr. 7, garrisoned in Saarburg and Trier before WWI. These regiments were part of the mounted arm of the German Empire and had distinctive uniforms and lances. As an antique (pre-1898) and chambered in a black powder cartridge, it qualifies under U.S. federal law as an antique firearm—meaning it can legally be shipped without an FFL in most states. Excellent for display as well and it is an antique so it can be shipped directly to purchaser. Fine bore as well. L26x Thanks for your bid.
