Synopsis:
Original and all-matching Imperial German Mauser Gewehr 98 bolt action rifle manufactured in 1916, chambered for the 7.92x57mm Mauser cartridge, with correct manual mechanics and an exceptional bore.
Description:
Imperial German Mauser Gewehr 98 bolt-action rifle manufactured in 1916 by Waffenfabrik Mauser, SN: 5255r. The receiver ring is marked “WAFFENFABRIK MAUSER OBERNDORF A/N 1916,” with the full SN: 5255r present on the receiver and barrel at the receiver shank. Chambered for 7.92×57mm Mauser (8×57 IS), the barrel is marked with an “S” stamp indicating conversion for the spitzer S-Patrone cartridge. The straight-handled in-the-white Mauser K98 bolt is fully matching as is the rear sight cursor, trigger guard, floorplate, both barrel bands, stock and buttplate. The rifle has a 29.5" barrel, Lange Visier rear sight, and a full-length walnut military stock with an unmarked cleaning rod and take-down disc on the right butt, the majority of parts with a scattering of military inspections.
Condition:
G-VG original finish German Mauser Gewehr 98 bolt action rifle from World War I whose wear is consistent with early issue and years of combat followed by neglected storage. Most rust blued parts with considerable thinning and spotting, oxidative flecking that has equally involved the in-the-white receiver and bolt. Original finish stock with oil darkening, scattered handling marks and superficial bruising. Surprisingly bright bore with sharp rifling. Correct manual mechanics.
