SWEDISH Contract MAUSER Model 1896 Bolt Action 6.5x55mm INFINTRY Rifle C&R
German Made TURN OF THE CENTURY Military Rifle
Description: SWEDISH Contract MAUSER Model 1896 Bolt Action 6.5x55mm INFINTRY Rifle C&R German Made TURN OF THE CENTURY Military Rifle Here we present a C&R Swedish Contract Waffenfabrik Mauser Model 1896 Bolt Action Rifle made circa 1899 in Oberndorf, Germany, with a production run between 1899 and 1900. The Model 1896 rifle in 6.5×55mm was adopted in 1896 for infantry use, replacing the Model 1867–1889 Remington Rolling Block rifle. Swedish production started in 1898 at Carl Gustafs, but additional rifles were produced by Mauser during 1899 and 1900 because of delays in shipping additional production machinery from Germany to Sweden. In 1938, Sweden decided to shorten the barrels on some of the Model 96 rifles to a handier length. Approximately 30,000 Model 96 rifles were converted to m/38 specifications at the Carl Gustafs arsenal, and in 1941 Husqvarna received a contract to manufacture 60,000 purpose-built Gevär m/38s. The main difference between the rebuilt and the new rifles was that the latter utilized a turned-down bolt handle and did not exhibit the fine finish of earlier rifles. At this time many thousands of Model 96 rifles were rebuilt with new barrels and stocks. The Model 38 Rifle (6.5 mm Gevär m/38) was adopted in 1938 as part of an overall worldwide military trend (which began just before World War I) towards service rifles that were shorter in overall length than a standard infantry rifle, but longer than a cavalry carbine. The overall condition is good. Robust action. Bright and nicely rifled bore. Solid stock with an average amount of wear. Visible numbers match. Sharp markings. “1899” dated receiver. Sharp markings. This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic. Barrel is 29 inches. Caliber: 6.5mm Swedish Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING.
