Elmer Keith's .338 Win Mag by Iver Henricksen
Description: Iver Henricksen was Elmer Keith's favorite gunmaker in the late 1950's and early 1960's and built this .338 Win Mag for Mr. Keith on a Single Square Bridge Magnum Mauser action. Originally built as a Hagler .280 Magnum ( and so marked ) the action and bottom metal of this rifle were color hardened which has since faded to a muted silver color, the Halger single set trigger is still in place and a Buehler scope safety has been fitted. The 24" barrel sports a Redfield barrel band front sight base with Sourdough blade sight, has no rear sight, and has a minty bore and chamber with no erosion in the lengthened throat. Stocked in a nicely fiddlebacked piece of English walnut to Mr. Keiths specifications with a Monte Carlo comb and sloping cheek piece Keith's initial "K" is relief carved into the right checkering pattern, the fore-end terminates in a graceful Schnabel and the butt is finished with a Noshoc pad with a length-of-pull of 13-1/8". The rifle is topped with what appears to be a Weaver K4 scope with Dual Range Reticle in Buehler rings on two piece bases. During Elmer Keith's tenure at "Guns" and "Guns & Ammo" magazines, this rifle was pictured and mentioned numerous times. The rifle also featured prominently in Keith's book "Hell I Was There", particularly in a Bering Sea Polar Bear hunt where it was used quite successfully. A classic sporting big-game rifle formerly the property of an icon in the Firearms writing industry. $15,950.00 SOLD |
