Mauser Oberndorf Sporter .30-06 caliber rifle. Rare and desirable original pre-WWI Oberndorf sporting rifle. The breech is marked “U.S. 1906” meaning it’s in .30-06 caliber. The barrel is half round and half octagon with a full length rib and excellent bore. The rib is marked “Waffenfabrik Mauser A.-G. Oberndorf AN Neckar.”, and the breech is similarly marked “Waffenfabrik Mauser A.-G. Oberndorf A/N”. The rifle has double set triggers, a 1000 meter sight, and a Lyman Alaskan 2.5X scope on a Griffin & Howe quick release mount. The mount partially obscures the serial number, 59XXX, so it was re-stamped under the receiver. The floorplate is marked “Germany”, signifying that it was made for export. The stock is of figured walnut, finely checkered with rosewood forend tip and horn buttplate and pistol grip cap. The metal is in excellent condition with 99% original blue finish. The wood is near excellent with some light wear and marks. An outstanding and beautiful, best quality Mauser sporting rifle.
