About Us: I am a retiree with a collection of nice firearms accumulated over a period of 15-20 years. Increasingly, I am aware that I can't take them with me, so have decided to sell them over the coming months. My description of each weapon will be as accurate as I can make it, and I will attempt to show any defects in photos. I will not sell a firearm that is functionally defective in any way. If you have questions, I look forward to your call or email.
270 Win Mauser Sporter Dumond Barrel. This Mauser has a story.
...S O L D......This beautiful .270 Win was built a few years before WW2. It was built for Mr. Dumond of the Dumond Barrel Co. The Dumond company made custom pistol barrels for competition and fine rifle barrels by special order. One of Mr. Dumond's customers contracted Mr. Dumond to make an extra long barrel for his 9mm Lugar. In 1937 this customer, who is named in the Bill of Sale which comes with the rifle, went to Spain and served with the Abraham Lincoln Brigade during the Spanish Civil War. He returned in 1938 and presented Mr. Dumond with a captured Model 98 German Mauser which Mr. Dumond sporterized. The Bill of Sale specifies that the rifle was stocked by W.L. Gartman of Cranston Rhode Island and the metal work was done by the Reading Gun Shop of Reading Pennsylvania. The previous owner of this rifle believed the stock to be French Walnut. It is finely checkered in a variation of the Spearpoint pattern that R.J. Owen made famous. The checkering and stock furniture are in excellent condition. The metal work is rust blued to a Nitre finish with some wear to sharp edges and a few light scratches in the bottom of the barrel. There is no rust or pitting. It is wearing a vintage Made in El Paso 3x-9x Weaver Marksman scope mounted on a early Redfield Jr. scope mount. I opted to include the scope in this sale because it goes so well with the rifle. Also, mounted on the right side of the action is a Lyman receiver peep sight base. The peep sight portion is included separately. The barrel is a Dumond barrel made by Dumond for himself. This 24 inch medium weight barrel does not appear to have been shot very much. The action is very smooth and the trigger breaks cleanly at 3 pounds. Length of pull is 13.75 inches. The weight of the rifle with scope is 8 pounds 13 oz. It has a low scope safety and a beautifully forged bolt handle. To insure safe arrival at it's next destination, shipping will include a Flambeau hard rifle case. The charge for 3 day insured shipping to your FFL will be $100.00 anywhere in the lower 48. If shipping turns out to be less, I will refund the difference. If more, I will pay the difference.
