GERMAN Mauser Deutsches SPORTMODELL Single Shot 22 LR BOLT ACTION C&R Rifle DSM-34 German SPORTING/TRAINING Rifle with LEATHER SLING!
Description: GERMAN Mauser Deutsches SPORTMODELL Single Shot 22 LR BOLT ACTION C&R Rifle
DSM-34 German SPORTING/TRAINING Rifle with LEATHER SLING!
Here we present a German Mauser Deutsches “Sportmodell” Single Shot Bolt Action Rifle made circa the mid-1930s in Oberndorf, Germany. This bolt-action .22 rifle was made by Mauser, which was one of many companies sub-contracting for the production of these allegedly sporting rifles. The German government, after the First World War, were officially restricted to the production of only sporting arms. Military weapon manufacture was highly restricted by the Allies in the terms of the Treaty of Versailles after the close of World War I. Some years on, the sporting rifles came to bear more than a passing resemblance to the old German service rifle. This new miniature caliber Mauser rifle became known as the DSM-34, by virtue of the " Deutsche Sportmodell" designation and the 1934 year of introduction. The DSM became one of the most common of the German "training" rifles leading into World War II. Modeled after the K98, this training rifle has an inverted “V” front sight and a tangent rear sight graduated from 25 to 200, with the left side of the barrel marked “KAL .22 Lang Fur Buchsen”.
The overall condition is fine. Great original blue finish. The action is robust all around. Nice original leather sling. The bore is bright. All markings are clear and legible. “TN” is hand carved into the left butt stock. This example includes the leather sling. A wonderful example of how the German culture trained under the Treaty of Versailles between World War I & II!
This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic.
