Description:
Merkel Mauser 98 built in 1929 on an original Oberndorf single square bridge magnum action sold to the trade. Marked on the receiver bottom with the Mauser serial and banner. Chambered in .375 H&H, with an octagonal to round solid ribbed barrel. The bluing is in good condition with the bottom metal mostly in bright work to highlight the engraving. The bolt retains roughly 40% of the nitre blued body and case colored back half with the majority remaining in the protected areas. The stock shows some old repairs at the wrist with some set back in the recoil lug, which can be excepted in a thinly European stocked .375 with no cross bolt, and approaching 100yo. The bore is mostly bright showing some minor rounding of the lands and greying in the grooves, but it still has plenty of life left. The receiver has never been drilled or altered for scope mounts which is getting tougher to find on some of these older rifles. $6,850 shipped to your FFL.
