Here we have a 1901 Swedish Mauser M96 – Matching Bolt – 6.5x55 – Carl Gustaf – Excellent Shooter. This classic 1901 Swedish Mauser Model 1896, manufactured at Carl Gustaf, chambered in the highly regarded 6.5x55 Swedish cartridge, equipped with Simmons Model 2102 3-9x32 scope.
This rifle began life as a military M96 and retains its original matching bolt (last three digits “381” matching receiver serial 87381)—a desirable feature confirming the integrity of the action. The receiver is correctly dated 1901 and bears the original Carl Gustaf markings.
At some point, the rifle was professionally converted for sporting use. The receiver has been drilled and tapped for a scope mount, and the barrel is marked “6.5 Swede 6.5x55” with a St. Albans, VT stamp, indicating a period U.S. modification.
