This Swedish Contract Mauser Model 1894/14 Carbine was produced by Waffenfabrik Mauser Oberndorf A/N in Germany in 1895. Caliber is 6.5x55 Swede. This rifle is part of the first 5000-rifle contract provided to Sweden by Mauser in 1895, s/n is 1381. The Model 1894/14 is a variant of the Standard Model 1894 Carbine which accepts a bayonet, as the original Model 1894 Carbine did not feature a mount for a bayonet. The 1894/14 features a nose cap that allows the bayonet to be mounted on the nose stud and bayonet lug. This Model 1894/14 features 100% matching serial numbers to include; receiver, all parts of the bolt, bolt release, floor plate, butt plate, front and rear sights, and barrel band. All markings remain deeply struck and legible, and there is no import mark.
This rifle bears a unit marking disc indicating it was rifle number 505 in the Swedish Army’s 12th Infantry Regiment, known as The Jonkoping Regiment. This regiment’s origins trace back to the 1550s, and it was active through the year 1927 when it was merged with another unit to form a new regiment.
Condition is about excellent as NRA Antique. The vast majority of the original blued finish remains with no rust or pitting present. The stock set remains free from damage beyond light handling wear, and it does not show any obvious evidence of refinishing or sanding. There is about a 1 ½” long area of open grain to the upper wood handguard beneath the barrel band as shown, though it is tight and solid, showing no looseness. The original matching numbered butt plate is present and free from damage. Mechanical function is correct/excellent. The bore remains very strong with crisp rifling throughout, with just light frost present, definitely a shootable bore. An original sling is included as shown, and it remains in very good condition. The sling has obviously been on the rifle for many, many years as evidenced by the presence of a pleasing green patina.
Overall this is an exceptionally nice, all original German-made antique Swedish 1894/14 Mauser Carbine, and it is chambered in a caliber that remains in production to this day!
