Description:
The rifle does not have a makers name. The barrel is a J.C. Higgins which has an inclusive barrel lug with rear sight. The rifle originally had a standard Mauser hood safety which I replaced for ease and with a scope attached. There was some barrel freckling at the underside where it meets the stock. In removing the stock there was also some arrested near the action as well. You have to take it apart to notice it. The stock is as you see fabulous. I judge it to be 99% now. A wood dent near the butt seen on photos I addressed as with any other scratches I found in need of care. You have to hunt to find a mark. To make this stock today would cost you $5,000.00 or more to do. This is no way this was a Higgins 51-L. I suspect the gun was custom made in the 60's. Aside from me test shooting it, I doubt it had fired five rounds, if at all. 
The rifle has a Canjar trigger. Comes with the best sling one can find or buy. It is a classic rifle to carry a lifetime. At 80 years old I think it best to pass to a younger man. It's good to go.
