Griffin & Howe Square Bridge Mauser – .220 Weatherby Rocket – Provenance to A&F / Leidesdorf

Description:
Griffin & Howe sporting rifle No. 2425, chambered in the scarce .220 Weatherby Rocket and built on a desirable square-bridge Mauser action. According to Griffin & Howe records, this rifle was received at Abercrombie & Fitch on September 27, 1966, as a consigned rifle for well-known collector Arthur David Leidesdorf, and is recorded in that caliber. The 24" barrel is properly engraved “No. 2425 Griffin & Howe Inc. New York, N.Y.”

The walnut stock features checkered pistol grip and fore-end with horn tip, steel grip cap, checkered steel buttplate, sling studs, and measures 13 1/2" length of pull. A gold oval in stock is engraved with initals ADL. The rifle is fitted with a Leupold scope mounted in the Griffin & Howe quick-detachable side mount system. The original Bear Cub scope has been replaced. A die set is included.

Condition is very fine overall. The metal retains strong original blue with light handling and field marks consistent with careful sporting use. The stock shows a professionally executed repair that blends well with the surrounding finish and minor handling marks, with checkering remaining well defined. The action is smooth and mechanically excellent.

The documented Griffin & Howe history, association with Abercrombie & Fitch, provenance to noted collector Arthur David Leidesdorf, and the desirable square-bridge Mauser configuration combine to make this an especially attractive and collectible Griffin & Howe sporting rifle.
