Pre-World War II THIRD REICH German MAUSER “s/42” Code 1936 Date K98 Rifle WORLD WAR II German Third Reich Infantry Rifle
Description: Pre-World War II THIRD REICH German MAUSER “s/42” Code 1936 Date K98 Rifle WORLD WAR II German Third Reich Infantry Rifle Here we present a C&R Third Reich German Mauser “s/42” Code “1936” Date Model 98 Rifle manufactured in 1936 in Obendorf, Germany. In 1898 the German Army purchased a Mauser design, the Model 98, which incorporated improvements introduced in earlier models. The weapon was originally chambered for the Patrone 88 and officially entered German service as the Gew. 98 on April 5, 1898. This remains by far the most successful of the Mauser designs, helped by the onset of two world wars that demanded vast numbers of rifles. In June of 1934, the German army adopted the Mauser Karbiner 98 Kurz as the standard service rifle of the German army. It remained in service until the end of the war in May of 1945. In 1934, only two manufacturers were assigned to produce the K98k. These were the Mauser plant at Obendorf, and the firm of J.P. Sauer & Sohn at Suhl. Mauser, Obendorf was the only manufacturer to produce the K98 from 1934-1935. Beginning in 1936 other makers were added to produce the K98k, while some makers were dropped due to production demands or interests in producing other weapons, such as machine guns, machine pistols, or other small arms that were needed. By 1943 there were at least 7 factories that were producers of the rifle. Each maker’s code, dates, and proof markings for each year are accordingly marked. Manufactured relatively early during the pre-World War II period of German re-armament, this Mauser 98 bears the "S/42" code over the "1936" date on the receiver ring, along with a set of "eagle/63" and "droop eagle" inspection marks. The barrel is fitted with the standard blade and tangent sights, and matching numbers are present on multiple components. Fitted with a smooth pistol grip stock, marked "WaA63" on the buttstock, with a flat steel buttplate and a leather sling. The overall condition is very good. Refinished. The action is excellent. The bore is bright with sharp rifling. The stock is solid and shows some faint inspection markings. Numbers differ from the bolt to the receiver. Own the original! This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic. Barrel is 24 inches. Caliber: 7.92mm Mauser Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING.
