Here we present a very nice example of the "Turkish Mauser" chambered in 8mm (7.92x57mm). The rifle was imported by C.A.I. and is tastefully marked as such on the right side of the barrel along with "M1938 GERMAN 8MM". The rifle is marked "Gew.98", short for Gewehr 98, the primary service rifle of the German Empire from 1898 to 1935, on the left side of the receiver. In the years leading up to and during WWII, thousands of Gew.98s were parted out and converted to the M1938 configuration. For this reason, the serial number on the left side of the receiver ring (5867) does not match the rest of the parts, which, according to most sources, is very common since Turkey was primarily assembling rifles out of stockpiled parts at that time. The rear of the receiver is also stamped "395" which matches the rear sight. Additional markings atop the receiver ring are a star and crescent moon, with the letter abbreviations "T C" (Turkiye Cumhuriyeti, or Republic of Turkey), "AS FA" (Askari Fabrika, or Military Factory), "ANKARA" (the capital city of Turkey), and 1937 (the year of manufacture/assembly). The rifle is in overall good condition, with much of the original blued finish worn off. The stock is in great shape with a few light dings/abrasions consistent with a rifle of this age.
