c1880s mfr. .32-35 STEVENS Antique MASS. ARMS Co. Model 1882 MAYNARD Rifle
Single Shot Hunting & Target Rifle from the Late-19th Century!
Description: c1880s mfr. .32-35 STEVENS Antique MASS. ARMS Co. Model 1882 MAYNARD Rifle Single Shot Hunting & Target Rifle from the Late-19th Century! Here we present an antique Massachusetts Arms Maynard Model 1882 Rifle, made by Massachusetts Arms Co. of Chicopee Falls, Mass. The Maynard model 1882 hunting & target rifle was developed by Edward Maynard and produced during its eight-year production run between 1882 and the mid-1890s. It was one of the first rifles to use quickly interchangeable barrels of various calibers. Maynard received his first patent in 1845 with the priming system which cycled a small mercury fulminate charge to a percussion cap. This invention turned out to be successful, and the United States Federal Government offered a dollar per weapon to produce them using his method. By 1855 all 1855 model .58 caliber military rifles and carbines were using Maynard's method. In 1851 Maynard patented a breech-loading rifle. The Confederacy during the Civil War took to this method particularly because it did not require the major manufacturing equipment used for most gun production. Maynard founded the Maynard Arms Company in 1857, contracting the Massachusetts Arms Company to manufacture the Maynard Carbines. The Maynard was one of the few patent breech-loaders to survive the post-Civil War period. It continued to be produced for hunting and target shooting until the mid-1890s. The predecessor to this rifle, the Model 1873, was the first Maynard with standard chambering for centerfire metallic cartridges. Both of these models were and are known for their accuracy. This one is chambered in .32-35 Stevens and features a Beach front sight with tang-mounted rear (no barrel-mounted rear sight or dovetail), straight stock with checkering, and a flat butt plate. The over condition is near fine. Strong action. Original blue finish. The bore is bright and nicely rifled. Solid stock with less than average wear. Nicely figured forearm. The wrist and fore end checkering remains sharp. Fully functioning rear peep sight. This example contains some hardened adhesive on the left side of the fore end. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 28 inches. Caliber: .32-35 Stevens (.311 bore) Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $2765 #217022 SOLD Antique: Yes |
