1950's Vintage Spanish Destroyer Carbine in 9mm Bergmann/Largo (9x23mm)
** Beautiful All-Original Carbine ** SOLD
Description: This is as nice of a Spanish Destroyer Carbine that we have had in many years. Do a search for examples of this neat little Spanish carbine and you will see example after example in poor to average condition. This Destroyer is in very good to excellent condition, and was manufactured in the 1950's by the Ayra Duria firm from what production info we have been able to find. The Spanish Destroyer Carbine was first produced in 1921 in Eibar Spain by the Gaztanaga firm, with production being transferred to the Ayra Duria company in 1935 which was also located in Eibar. The Destroyer Carbine was built for the Spanish Guardia Civil which was part of the Spanish Army, as well as the Spanish National Police, border and customs agents, prison guards, forestry guards, and even factory guards. The Destroyer was a scaled down bolt-action repeater carbine chambered in 9mm Largo that based off of the Mauser Model 1893. The Destroyer used the same cartridge and could use the same 10-shot magazine as the standard issue Bergmann pistol that many Spanish agents carried, allowing these officers/agents/soldiers to carry one type of ammo and magazine for both their longarm and sidearm. The Destroyer carbine proved to be an excellent carbine that was both accurate, handy, and reliable, and it stayed in service with these agencies until the 1970's when it was finally replaced by the Star Z-62 submachine gun. The Destroyer Carbine was relatively unknown in the U.S. until they were imported into the States in the late 1980's into the 1990's. While they were cheap when first imported, the Spanish Destroyer Carbine is a sought-after collectible today and finding one in good condition that is all-original like this one is extremely hard. As you can see from the pictures provided, this Destroyer has the original factory blue finish fully intact with only minor wear showing. The barrel bands and magazine/trigger housing shows a slightly brown patina to them but it does not detract from the clean overall look of this carbine. The bore in this Destroyer is excellent, bright and clean with no pitting or erosion visible. The rifling still looks sharp with nicely defined lands and grooves throughout the length of the 21" inch barrel. The bolt is in excellent condition as well, polished bright from the factory and free from any major wear or staining. The bolt is original and serial numbered to the receiver on the back of the bolt handle (close-up picture provided). The original hardwood stock is in superb condition, free from any cracks, chipping, repairs, or major damage. The stock shows only some minor handling marks and the glossy clearcoat finish is fully intact. All of the controls on this Destroyer are in perfect working order. The adjustable rear sight is in excellent condition, the safety functions properly, and the bolt turns into battery perfectly. We have no doubt this this Destroyer will be just as accurate and reliable today as it was when it left the factory in the 1950's. If you have been looking for a unique and scarce new weapon for your military/firearms collection this Spanish Destroyer in 9mm Largo would be an excellent choice. These have proven to be excellent investments and should also be a lot of fun at the range!
