1950 Spanish Military Fabrica Des Armas La Coruna Model FR-8 Bolt Action Rifle w/ Bayonet * Beautiful Example! *

Description:
This is a beautiful 1950-production Spanish Military-issued FR-8 battle rifle complete with an original military-issue bayonet and scabbard.    Chambered in .308 Winchester/7.62 NATO, this bolt-action repeater with a 5-shot internal magazine is unique in both design and origin, as they were all re-made or created into this model from Spanish Military-issue Model 1943 Short Rifles, a variant of the Mauser K98.   The FR-8 rifles were re-built / assembled by the Spanish firm Fabrica Des Armas La Coruna, where they combined the Mauser-made K98 type action of the M43 Short Rifle with a barrel assembly made by either CETME or HK and a number of other parts.  The interesting and unique features of these FR-8 rifles that are most-responsible for making it stand-out, are the strikingly perpindicular and tall rear sight assembly that incorporates a rotating-wheel peep aperature at the top of it, an under-barrel mounted "tube" that looks like a gas tube for an automatic action, but was actually designed to store a cleaning kit and serve as the base for the bayonet mount, and finally the entire front sight assembly, from the front sight to the end of the flash hider, that also looks like what you would see on a semi-auto or select-fire HK 91 or CETME rilfe. On the FR-8, this serves as the grenade launching base in addition to sighting, and helping conceal the location of the soldier when fired in low light conditions. These features when combined with a traditional Walnut pistol-grip rifle stock, a straight-handled bolt, sling mounts on the side and keel of the rifle, and the dark gray parkerized finish on all of the metal parts, result in a miitary rifle that is handsome, unique, and memorable.

The FR7 and FR8 were introduced in the 1950's when the Spanish military was already implementing the CETME automatic rifle, but did not yet have sufficient inventory to equip and train all troops. The rifles were made from existing stockpiles of Mauser bolt-action rifles. The FR-7 was a modification of the Model 1916 short rifle, which in turn was based on the Mauser Model 1893. These three rifles are often referred to as being "small ring" Mausers, as the receiver ring is smaller in diameter than the latter Model 1898 by .110-inch (1.410 inches vs. 1.300 inches).[5] The FR-8 was rebuilt from the Model 1943 short rifle, which was based on the "large ring" Model 1898 Carbine Mauser action(98K). Both rifles were modified to fire 7.62×51mm NATO but the FR-7 uses a low powered variation due to the small rings weaker design.[6][7][8] The FR 8 was used well into the 1970s by mounted Guardia Civil units in the Sierra Nevada.
