WW2 1943 Smith Corona Model 1903A3 Rifle in .30-06 Springfield
** Scarce All-Original Clean Rifle! ** SALE PENDING
Description: This is an excellent example of an all-original World War 2 1903A3 rifle made by the Smith Corona company in 1943. The Smith Corona made '03A3's are much more scarce than the Remington produced examples, with Smith Corona making a total of 234,580 rifles versus Remington's total production of 707,629 rifles. This particular gun is 100% original and correct just as it left the Smith Corona factory in '43, and has not been thru any Arsenal rebuilds or altered in any way. It is exactly the same today as it was when it was brought home by some G.I. at the end of World War 2. The correct mixture of blued and parkerized finishes on the various parts of the rifle are all very attractive with a very consistent level of patina showing on all of them. The blued bolt has some really nice original blue finish on it, with the finish wear showing where metal contacts metal when the bolt is worked. The stock bands and rear sight still show some nice original blue finish as well despite some patches of finish corrosion and minor handling marks, particularly the lower band. The parkerized receiver, barrel, bayonet lug, and triggerguard / floorplate assembly all show a very attractive original dark green/gray color typical of a wartime finish. The bore in this 1903A3 is excellent. We gauged it and the throat measured a little under a "2", while the muzzle measured a "1". This means that this rifle is barely even "broken in" and has been very well cared for. The U.S. Arsenal system typically didnt replace these barrels until they got somewhere close to a "10" if that gives you a better idea how little wear the bore shows in this rifle. The rifling still has nice sharp lands and grooves and there is no pitting or erosion visible. The original stock on this Smith Corona is excellent. The stock is free from any cracks, major damage, or repairs, and just shows some handling marks and dings and dents typical of an issued rifle. The worst of the dings is located on the lower left edge of the stock just below the lower stock band, and as you can see from the pictures does not hurt the looks or solidness of the stock. The original "FJA" and U.S. Ordnance wheel inspection and acceptance cartouches are just visible on the left side above the wrist, while all the small inspection stamps in front of the floorplate and the circle "P" proof on the bottom of the wrist are nice and clear. The original steel buttplate is still intact on this rifle, and the little trap door is in excellent working condition. All of the controls and functions on this '03A3 are in perfect working order including the adjustable rear sight. The action is nice and smooth but still precise, locking into battery perfectly. The 2-stage trigger is excellent for a U.S. Military issue rifle, breaking nicely with a medium pull at the second stage. This Smith Corona comes with an original U.S. Military M1907 leather sling on it in good condition. The leather is still flexible and soft, and the original stitching is all intact and still nice and tight. This Smith Corona 1903A3 would make an excellent addition to any U.S. Military weapons collection or any gun collection for that matter. These rifles have proven to be excellent investments, and un-molested all-original guns are becoming very hard to find.
