WWII WW2 German 1940-dated Berlin-Lübecker K98k Rifle
Description: For your consideration is a 1940-dated Berlin-Lübecker K98k rifle. This rifle is all matching except for the rear barrel band, which is un-numbered. There is an excellent "237" factory code & 1940 date on the receiver with crisp waffen proofs throughout. The metal parts are in good condition and have retained most of their finish, but there is an even layer of brown patina throughout the rifle. The original stock was heavily sanded & duffle-cut - the current is a replacement that is dated 1939 and has a has a nice Heer stamp. The stock is not numbered so works well with the rifle. The stock exhibits minor nicks & dings throughout but has a great reddish-brown hue. No major chips, cracks or gouges. Working the rifle from front to rear… The barrel & front band exhibit a heavy brown patina with the sight hood having a nice brown patina of a slightly different hue. The front barrel band is slightly out of alignment & needs just a bit more adjusting. The cleaning rod is an original replacement as the rifle did not come with one. The bore has strong rifling, but there is pitting in the grooves. I would rate the bore a 7/10. The rear barrel band is unnumbered & retains very little finish. The rear sight is properly numbered & shows the range graduation on both sides. The receiver has a more bluish hue & is not as heavy with the brown patina as the barrel & front band. The receiver has a very crisp “237” & “1940” date. Nice, crisp “Mod.98” stamp. The bolt is all matching & retains the same bluish-brown hue as the receiver. It shows some finish loss from use. The magazine floor plate is matching & crisply-marked showing some finish loss. The trigger & trigger guard exhibit a heavy brown patina with wear (finish loss & minor nicks in the metal) on the bottom of the trigger guard. Bolt disassembly disc has a crisp waffen mark & a spotty brown patina. The butt plate may have been originally blued or has developed a heavy dark brown patina. No rust or pitting & was original to the stock. Overall, an excellent 1940-dated rifle which a difficult to find in any condition. The front barrel band requires just a bit more adjustment but I will leave that to the new owner. Excellent condition 1940 rifles are quite pricey but I am reducing the price on this rifle to account for the replaced stock that, while original, is not original to this particular rifle. Preferred method of payment is by USPS money order but I will accept a certified check. $2200 shipped.
