Antique US Model 1896 Krag-Jorgensen Rifle by Springfield Armory

Serial #60554, .30-40 Krag, 30" barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This rifle retains 95-97% of the original blue finish, with some mild silvering at the muzzle, as well as some thin freckling present in spots on the receiver, nosecap, barrel band, and magazine door. The bolt has a lightly mottled gray patina, with specks of dark freckling scattered throughout, and about 30-40% of the original bright nitre blue remains on the extractor. A correct Model 1896 rear sight is fitted. The walnut stock and handguard have some small handling marks and surface blemishes scattered about the old added military oil finish, and both the "JSA / 1897" cartouche, and proof stamp are still legible. The buttplate has 60-70% of the original blue remaining. This is a fine-near excellent example of a desirable Model 1898 Krag, and would make a great addition to any collection. Antique;
