FRENCH CHASSEPOT MODEL 1866 RIFLE WITH BAYONET
1867 French 11mm Chassepot Model 1866 rifle with bayonet. Serial numbers match on barrel, bolt, cocking piece, and bayonet lug. Rear sight numbered 442. Stock numbered 53225. Butt plate, butt plate screws, trigger guard screws, and tang screw numbered 19. JD stamped on nose cap. French Model 1866 Chassepot Sword Bayonet. Bright, slightly curved blade with fuller. Maker marked on the spine Mre Impale de Chale Bre 1867. Proof marks on the ricasso. 69.L.I3.4.2. with Anchor and 2 on reverse and various proof marks on quillon. Solid brass handle numbered 928. Unnumbered steel scabbard. CONDITION: Mottled patina with minor spots of oxidation. Bore: Light wear with good rifling and minor oxidation. Receiver: Mottled patina with minor oxidation. Stock: Light wear with plug removed in right side (for unit disc?). Butt plate: Mottled patina with light scuffs. Mechanically good. Bayonet: Very good. Blade has some dark spots.
