U.S. Model 1892 Krag-Jorgensen Rifle (Altered to 1896 Specs)
Description: Serial #6198, .30-40 Krag, 29" barrel with a fine, bright bore that has some faint traces of freckling within the grooves. This is an 1894 dated rifle that has 70-75% blue remaining on the barrel with some gray fading at the muzzle, and streaks of smooth plum-brown on the balance of the metal. The receiver has a mottled blue-gray patina with mild freckling, and the magazine door retains traces of original blue on the otherwise speckled gray metal. The bolt is finished armory bright with dark freckling mixing in (most noticeably on the handle), and the extractor still nearly all of the original bright fire blue remaining. Original color cas-hardening is still present on the safety as well. The rifle is outfitted with a Model 1901 rear sight, but the slider is no longer present, and the stock forearm is duffel-cut under the barrel band. The stock and handguard have numerous small handling marks and surface blemishes scattered throughout the excellent, added oil finish. The ramrod channel was filled during the conversion and the cartouche is still crisp: “JSA/1895". This is a handsome early Krag, modified to Spanish-American War specs, and is in very good condition overall.
