U.S. Eddystone Rifle 1917 Canadian Issue Excellent Condition
Description: SN 675804 is an excellent example of a Eddystone 1917 Enfield as sold and issued in Canada in WW2. This above average example shows 95% of its original blue finish and all Eddystone component parts. The barrel is dated 5-18 and shows a bright excellent 30-06 cal bore. The original wood shows the correct eagle head proofs and is marked on the right side of the butt with the clear deeply struck C broad arrow Canadian property mark. The wood shows all of its' original oil finish and rates as excellent . This example is mounted with an original "Nobuckel" military canvass sling. There were 100,000 of these rifles acquired by Canada in 1940-41. These were used as training rifles, guard guns and issued to the R.C.A.F. The question remains as to what happened to these rifles following WW2. Relatively few appear on the market. It is probable that the majority of these rifles were destroyed in the post war period. The non Canadian standard 30-06 caliber may have played a part in the destruction of the majority of these rifles. Nice collectable rilfe.
