A good early Type 38 long rifle with a 31 1/2" barrel and the bore is typical of wartime guns with strong rifling and some corrosion down in the grooves.But will spin a bullet real good. Dust cove number is 978..This fine gun has a grounf MUM but has the dust cover, and was made by 38 Koishikawa Arsenal (Tokyo) made up to 1935. And has a school stamping on top of the barrel near the breech, but these were reissued during the war because a shortage of eveailable guns and in preparation of an eventual invasion. Gun locks up good and the teak wood stock is better than most with only small dings and scrapes. The base plate and trigger guard has a large 82 stamped, and I've never seen this before , possibly a rack number? When buying a gun always have it examined by a competent gunsmith before shooting.
