Standard configuration and all-matching WWII production Japanese Type 99 military rifle, made by Kokura, with intact chrysanthemum and late Type 30 bayonet/scabbard. The left side of receiver is stamped with the serial number “23683”, preceded by the series and followed by the arsenal mark and inspection stamp. Matching numbered bolt with last three digits on the extractor, bolt knob, and rotatable safety. This example includes the anti-aircraft wings on the tangent sight. Hardwood stock with grasping grooves on each side and an unnumbered bayonet lug. Fitted with a cupped sheet metal buttplate. Missing cleaning rod and no monopod. Complete with late Type 30 bayonet made by Tokyo Arsenal SN: 86266 with straight quillion having squared bottom and blued blade/scabbard.
Condition:
VG / VG+ with at least 98% bright original salt blue on the barrel, rear sight and receiver, toning to brown/etched oxidation in parts customarily handled and subject to perspiration/abuse such as the safety knob, bolt handle, rear portion of trigger guard and butt plate. Original finish stock with darkening and usual scattering of handling marks, deeper and fresher-appearing gouges on the handguard, the left side of the stock missing a sliver of wood between barrel band and rear sight. Mirror bore. Correct manual mechanics. Comparable condition bayonet/scabbard with the blued, roughly finished blade showing light-moderate wear, oxidative toning on the quillion and pommel.
