WW2 Vintage Japanese Kokura Arsenal Type 38 Arisaka Rifle in 6.5 Jap w/ Original Sling
** Beautiful Rifle w/ Intact Mum & Matching ** SOLD
Description:
This is a very nice all-original WW2 Imperial Japanese Military Type 38 Arisaka rifle made by the Kokura Arsenal. It was a U.S. soldier's "war trophy" that was brought back to the States after the war and is not an import-marked rifle. This Type 38 Arisaka is 100% original, complete, and matching except for the dust cover, and has a beautiful intact Mum and an original Japanese Military leather sling. We were told that it came back with the non-matching dust cover and it is in exactly the same configuration now as when it was captured. This Arisaka is a very good-looking example that certainly saw some battle during WW2. The original factory blue finish is still quite good but shows some wear, corrosion, and handling marks you would expect to see on a combat-used weapon. The factory-strawed sight spring, bolt release spring, and trigger still show some nice yellow/gold color, particularly in the protected areas. All of the factory markings are still clean and crisp on this Type 38 Arisaka, and all of the serial numbered parts are matching (except for the dust cover). The bore in this rifle is in good condition overall. The rifling is still strong throughout the bore, with bright lands but dark grooves. This is very common as these Type 38's were not chrome-lined like the later Type 99's. The original stock set on this Arisaka is particularly neat. As you can see from the pictures, the wood shows lots of small handling marks but has a great look to it. The two-piece buttstock is a great match unlike some we have seen, and the joint between the two pieces is perfectly tight. Of particular interest is some battle damage at the end of the forearm on the left side behind the top band. You can see where a peice of shrapnel or bullet impacted the stock just to the side of the barrel, which in turn caused a crack in the forearm. There is a close-up picture provided of this area. All of the original Japanese Military inspection stamps are still visible, and all of the factory stock hardware is intact on this Type 38, including both barrel bands and the buttplate which show a consistent patina with the rest of the rifle. This Kokura Arsenal Type 38 comes complete with the original cleaning rod in-place and it's original leather sling. As you can see the sling is showing its age and some damage but is still intact and functional. This Arisaka is 100% functional and has a nice smooth action that locks up tight. All of the controls on this rifle are in perfect working order, including the adjustable rear sight. We have no doubt that it will fire just as reliably and accurately as when it was issued to the Imperial Japanese Military. If you have been looking for a real combat-used Type 38 Arisaka for your WW2 weapons collection you would be hard-pressed to find a better all-original example than this one.
