M1 Carbine Inland # 644008 Collector Correct
Description: This M1 Carbine is not a compilation of M1 Carbine parts put together just to make the thing shoot. I have totally disassembled this rifle, inspected every part to make sure all of them are correct for this serial number rifle as specified by the U.S Ordnance Department. All M1 Carbines were assigned serial numbers that were in specific production blocks that would differentiate them when parts or design changes were implemented. Most parts of the M1 Carbine, regardless of manufacturer we given a Type designation and if possible were stamped with letters assigned by the manufacturer of the rifle. For instance this rifle is serial # 644008 which was manufactured in 9 of '43 in Inland's 1st production block Series "E" and the Operating Slide is a Type 2 and is stamped PI . That is how all the parts by all manufacturers were accounted for. Nearly all of the parts were interchangeable between manufacturers which helped prevent production slow downs due too parts shortages. That is how over 6 million M1 Carbines were manufactured in such a short time by only 11 manufacturers. All of that being said is the fact that not all of the M1 Carbines that were manufactured in the latter years of WWII actually saw battle action. Virtually none of the model of 1944-1945 Carbines were issued during WWII. They were sent to the arsenal for updates such as the upgrade replacement of the rotary safety, Type 1 and type 2 Barrel Bands, and the Dual Apperture Rear Sight but never made it to actual duty. So, be careful what you pay for a "collectible WWII M1 Carbine. Do your thorough research by using one of the many well written books by one of the noted authorities on the M1 Carbine. I use Roger Larson's Book "M1 Carbine Comprehensive Guide". I use it to research and validate the parts for authenticity because of the cataloging and the photos of the parts. It is easy to use and is well written, plus the photos are very high quality. I use this book exclusively because I can be consistant in my evaluation of the rifles I sell. The M1 Carbine I am selling here is a August 1943 production Inland M1 Carbine with serial number 644008. This makes it a 1st Production (serial numbers 101 through 999,000) Inland Mfg. produced rifle in the "E" Series of that production block. So this rifle falls into the category of rifles that likely saw battle in WWII. That being said I can tell you it still has the High Wood Dark Walnut Stock and Handguard, the dual apperture rear flip sight, a push type safety, Type 1 barrel band, and all the other correct parts as required by the U.S. Ordinance Department. I have validated all of the parts to be the correct type number, correct manufacturer stamping marks, and correct design for this serial number. The metal parts are very consistant in color and having no signs of damage or misuse. The wood has no cracks, repairs, or unusual damage; especially around the escutcheon , the tang, or the high wood below the operating slide. Take a close look at the pictures to confirm what I am saying. Many M1 Carbines will have wood damage in these areas. I have over 150 pictures of all the parts of this rifle I can send you upon request. I also have three completed data sheets of my survey which I can send to you as well. This is an 80 year old rifle that fires and functions like a new one. Most sellers tell the measurement of the bore erosionin numbers; how about a picture of the bore lands and riflings which tells the truth of the condition. Take a good look the pictures and feel free to contact me with any questions you have. Although this rifle is fully functional it carries no expressed or implied warranties. All sales and shipping will be in compliance with state and federal firearms shipping and sales regulations. I will pay the shipping and insurance cost to the valid FFL of your choice within the contiguous 48 United States. Preferred method of payment is USPS Money Order or approved personal check.
