M1 GARAND WITH USMC M1C/MC-1 MC-52
SNIPER KOLLMORGEN SCOPE AND MOUNT, HART FLASH HIDER
Description: This M1 Garand for sale, has a very rare 4X Kollmorgen USMC scope and Griffin & Howe mount, which were specifically designed for the US Marine Corps. The Scope has clear glass, and very much like a Redfield in ocular and objective lens size. The turrets click through elevation and windage, and are big and fat for a gloved hand. Rifle is in overall excellent shape, and would include the sling, cheekpad and Hart Flash Hider. This rifle was purchased from a retired Marine officer, who in-turn purchased it several decades ago, while stationed at Quantico, VA with duties as a security officer for the large weapons depository of the Marine Corps Museum. He shot the rifle, sans scope, in competition. There is no further rifle history available to me. I have several detailed pictures available, beyond what is allowed by Gunsinternational
I can provide the two links before, not allowed to include other addresses. The attached bracket on the receiver is “4” rifles away from the Marine Corps MC-52 (M1C) in the Springfield Armory Museum collection in Massachusetts. (S.A.M.) A Springfield M1C with Marine Kollmorgen Scope sold for nearly $15,000 at RIA recently (MAY 2016) rockisland/viewitem/aid/67/lid/3632 “In 1952, the Corps replaced the M1C’s M81 scope with a Stith-Kollmorgen Model 4XD-USMC scope, and the weapon was redesignated as the USMC 1952 or MC52. Marine armories also added a bell-shaped flash hider, but few of these weapons made it into theater for combat service by the time the Korean War ended. Marines carried the M1C and the MC52 throughout the 1950s and used them in the Dominican intervention in 1965 and during the early days of the Vietnam War. In 1966, the MC52 sniper rifle was phased out of service and replaced by the M40 sniper rifle, effectively ending the M1 Garand family’s 23-year run as a front-line Marine combat weapon.“ Keith A. Milks, Marine Corps Times Kollmorgen Scope Specifications: Magnification - 4 Power Field of View at 100 yds. - 30 ft. Eye relief - 3-1/2 in. approx.
