Austrian, M-1844, Flint Lock Carbine, Superb Condition

Description:
This Carbine looks better in hand than the pictures indicate, the uniform mellow tone is very difficult to capture. This Austrian carbine is marked to and made by ANNA OESTERLEIN. It has the date marked on the lock “844”, common practice was to not mark the four numbers 1844. The number “852” is struck on the left breach, perhaps indicating a serial number. Many proof marks are marked on the barrel as expected. The top tang of the butt plate has unit marks applied so perhaps campaign history could be researched. A crack can be seen forward of the lock, but no other defects are noted. The Flint Lock works as designed. This F/L carbine evolved into the M-1851 with a percussion lock. Many of the percussion guns were imported into the U.S. for use by both sides in the Civil War.
Its hard to write a description of this carbine without using the word “cute”, there I did it. With an overall length of only 30 inches, I think it’s justified. Most collectors would consider this carbine as a wonderful addition to their collection.

RETURNS:
Returns must be made within 3 days of receipt. They must be received in exactly the same condition with no parts exchanged.  If it has been altered, damaged, or fired, a refund will not be made.  Packing, shipping and insurance cost will not be refunded.  All layaway purchases are returnable for merchandise credit only.
 PAYMENT: 
Bank check, Personal check, and Money Orders are preferred. Visa and MasterCard are accepted with a 4% processing fee
 LAYAWAYS: 
A 20% deposit is required.  Balance is due in 30 days. Deposits are non-refundable and are forfeited after 40 days.  Layaway sales are returnable for merchandise credit only.
SALES TAX: 
Pennsylvania state sales tax is 6% for in state purchases. The payment of other states sales tax, if applicable, for shipped items is the buyers responsibility.
